Sunday night I experienced something that touché d me in a way I have never been touched. A man who came this morning and came back for the evening service, came up to me and gave some money. When he had given it to me he said “this is all I have but I want to give it.” I don’t know why he gave it to me and in the offering plate; I don’t think that really matters though. What amazed me was the sincerity he had when he gave it to me. I couldn’t help but help think of the that says “While Jesus was in the Temple, he watched the rich people putting their gifts into the collection box. 2 Then a poor widow came by and dropped in two pennies.* 3 “I assure you,” he said, “this poor widow has given more than all the rest of them. 4 For they have given a tiny part of their surplus, but she, poor as she is, has given everything she has.”(Luke 21:1-3) How many times do we give our offering and do not think much about it because we still have money left, yet this man give all he had at the time. I know that he would be getting more money soon, but he gave and asked for nothing in return. Maybe the better question is how much are we willing to sacrifice in our own lives to give to God?
